The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest the 2027 Uttarakhand Assembly elections under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the party's president Nitin Nabin announced on Thursday. Praising Dhami's performance, Nabin said that governance and development have won the public's trust.
Speaking to reporters, Nabin highlighted the achievements of the Dhami-led government, stating that the state has witnessed significant progress in infrastructure, healthcare, and education under his tenure. He added that the party's decision reflects the confidence in Dhami's ability to lead the state to further growth.
"Under the leadership of Pushkar Singh Dhami, the BJP has delivered on its promises and connected with the people of Uttarakhand. The development trajectory and good governance have earned the trust of the masses," Nabin said.
The announcement comes ahead of the crucial assembly polls, with the BJP aiming to retain power in the state. Dhami, who took over as chief minister in 2021, has been credited with steering the state through various challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters.
Political analysts view this early declaration as a strategic move to consolidate the party's base and send a message of stability to voters. The BJP has been in power in Uttarakhand since 2017, and the party hopes to continue its winning streak under Dhami's leadership.
Nabin also thanked the people of Uttarakhand for their continued support and urged party workers to work tirelessly to ensure a resounding victory in 2027. The BJP's state unit has already begun preparations for the elections, with focus on grassroots outreach and highlighting the government's achievements.
The Uttarakhand Assembly has 70 seats, and the BJP currently holds a majority. The main opposition parties, including the Congress, have yet to announce their candidate for the chief ministerial post.
