Brij Bhushan Singh Alleges Lok Sabha Exit Was a 'Conspiracy', Vows to Contest Again
Brij Bhushan Singh: Lok Sabha exit a conspiracy, will contest again

In a dramatic claim that has stirred political circles, former Bharatiya Janata Party MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has alleged that his tenure in the Lok Sabha was terminated not by the electorate but through a deliberate "conspiracy." The senior leader, who represented Kaiserganj, has boldly declared his intention to return to parliamentary politics.

"A Conspiracy, Not People's Will": Singh's Stark Allegation

Speaking candidly on a podcast this Wednesday, the six-time parliamentarian asserted that his political career was unfairly "cut short." Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh expressed feeling "humiliated and forced out" despite having represented the region multiple times over his long career. He firmly stated that if he remains alive, he will definitely make another bid for the Lok Sabha.

"I will try to contest on a BJP ticket. If the party does not give a ticket, I will contest as an Independent candidate. But if I am alive, I will contest," the former MP declared, outlining his unwavering resolve. This statement comes after the BJP denied him a ticket for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections following serious allegations by female wrestlers. The party instead fielded his son, Karan Bhushan Singh, who successfully won the Kaiserganj seat.

Ayodhya Snub and Support from Opposition Leaders

Singh also voiced his disappointment at not receiving an invitation to the second-anniversary celebrations of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. He highlighted that as a public representative and an original karsevak of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, the omission hurt him. He claimed that many who played no role in the movement were invited, while genuine contributors were ignored. Singh mentioned that he later declined an invitation on the grounds of self-respect, adding that he has not yet visited Ram Lalla and plans to do so as an ordinary devotee, standing in the queue.

Reflecting on the period when allegations of sexual harassment were levelled against him by women wrestlers, Singh acknowledged the restraint shown by some opposition leaders. He specifically noted that Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav did not make any statement against him, a gesture he said he would "never forget." He added that leaders from the BSP, JD(U), and RJD also refrained from commenting against him at the time.

Legal Battles and the Road Ahead

The political downfall of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is directly linked to allegations by six female wrestlers, including prominent athletes like Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, who staged protests against him. In a significant development in May 2024, a Delhi court framed charges against Singh for sexual harassment, outraging the modesty of women, and criminal intimidation based on complaints from five women wrestlers.

While Singh pleaded not guilty, maintaining his innocence, the court observed that the allegations reflected a "systematic and recurring pattern" and ordered the case to proceed to trial. He was, however, discharged in one related complaint dating back to 2012. In August 2024, Singh approached the Delhi High Court seeking to quash the FIR, chargesheet, and the trial court's orders.

As the legal process continues, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's bold allegations of a conspiracy and his promise to return to the electoral fray set the stage for a contentious new chapter in his political journey, keeping Kaiserganj and national politics keenly watching his next move.
