At least 40 people were injured when a bus plunged into a ditch on the Delhi-Lucknow highway in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district early Wednesday, police said.
Accident occurred near Pardholi village
The accident took place around 3 am near Pardholi village under the CB Ganj police station limits, according to officials. The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and fall into a roadside ditch.
Police and rescue teams reached the spot shortly after the incident. The injured passengers were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials said that while no fatalities have been reported, several passengers sustained serious injuries.
"The driver lost control of the bus, leading to the accident. Rescue operations were carried out swiftly, and all injured have been admitted to hospital," a police officer said.
Investigation underway
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that overspeeding or driver fatigue may have been contributing factors.
The bus was traveling from Delhi to Lucknow when the incident occurred. The highway is a major route connecting the national capital to Uttar Pradesh's capital.
