The Centre has assured adequate fertiliser supply for the upcoming Kharif season, with stocks currently at comfortable levels. According to the Department of Fertilizers, farmers have purchased 102.78 lakh tonnes of chemical fertilisers so far this season, indicating robust demand and availability.
Government Reassures Farmers
In a statement, the Department of Fertilizers confirmed that sufficient quantities of urea, DAP, MOP, and complex fertilisers are available to meet the anticipated demand during the Kharif season. The government has been closely monitoring the supply situation and coordinating with state governments and fertiliser companies to ensure timely distribution.
Stocks at Comfortable Levels
Officials noted that the current inventory levels are adequate to support the sowing operations. The department has also made arrangements for additional imports if required, to prevent any shortage. The Kharif season, which typically begins in June, is critical for crops like paddy, cotton, sugarcane, and pulses.
The government's assurance comes amid concerns over potential supply disruptions due to global market volatility. However, the Department of Fertilizers has emphasised that proactive measures have been taken to maintain a steady supply chain.
Farmers are encouraged to purchase fertilisers from authorised dealers and report any instances of hoarding or black marketing to the authorities. The government has also launched awareness campaigns to promote balanced fertiliser use, which can enhance soil health and crop yields.
With the Kharif season underway, the Centre's commitment to ensuring adequate fertiliser supply is expected to support agricultural productivity and farmers' livelihoods across the country.
