The Communist Party of India (CPI) will hold statewide protests on June 29, demanding that the Centre release all pending funds to Tamil Nadu. Party state secretary M Veerapandiyan addressed reporters in Mayiladuthurai on Monday, outlining the party's demands.
Demands for Stringent Action and Awareness
Veerapandiyan also demanded stringent action against sexual assault-related crimes and called for more awareness campaigns. He was in Mayiladuthurai to commemorate former CPI state committee member R Idumbaiyan, who recently passed away. Veerapandiyan emphasized that along with police mobilization, students and political parties must lead awareness campaigns to prevent sexual assaults on women and young children.
Review of Singappen Special Force Teams
Regarding the Singappen special force teams, Veerapandiyan said district administrations should review the shortage of personnel and make appointments accordingly. The CPI state executive committee has passed a resolution demanding a complete waiver of farmers' loans.
Loan Waiver and Mekedatu Dam Issue
“The state government must take serious efforts to waive the loans, and the Union government extend its support by immediately releasing all pending funds due to Tamil Nadu,” he said. Veerapandiyan added that the chief minister must remain resolute on the Mekedatu dam issue and prevent its construction.
