BJP Chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar Slams Congress Over Asset Allegations as Kerala Polls Loom
NEW DELHI: On the eve of crucial polling in Kerala, BJP national president Rajeev Chandrasekhar has vehemently refuted accusations from the Congress party regarding alleged omissions in his election affidavit. The former union minister characterized the claims as a "sad, desperate effort" by a "scared" opposition to shift focus away from developmental issues.
Chandrasekhar's Fiery Rebuttal to Opposition Charges
In a statement released to the media, Chandrasekhar asserted, "Merely raising allegations does not transform them into truth. This is a straightforward, pathetic, and frantic attempt by a frightened Congress and a terrified CPM to distract the public from progress. If they possess any concrete evidence, why haven't they approached the police or the Election Commission? They will refrain from doing so."
He further elaborated on the political dynamics, stating, "This marks the final election in Kerala featuring three distinct fronts. Commencing with the subsequent election, it will solely be the NDA versus a unified Congress and LDF, officially consolidated as the INDI alliance."
Congress Allegations and Electoral Context
The controversy erupted after Congress leader and UDF candidate from the Nemom assembly constituency, KS Sabarinathan, lodged a complaint with the Election Commission. Sabarinathan alleged that Chandrasekhar failed to disclose assets valued at approximately Rs 200 crore in his nomination papers.
Sabarinathan clarified, "Post-nomination filing, significant inconsistencies have emerged concerning asset declarations. We have formally highlighted this matter during the scrutiny process and intend to submit comprehensive evidence."
Kerala's Electoral Landscape and Future Projections
Kerala is scheduled to vote in a single phase on April 9, with vote counting set for May 4. The political arena is intensely competitive:
