The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a movement born out of social media, has announced plans to escalate its protest against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan into a nationwide agitation. Beginning with a demonstration at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on June 6, the group has now called for protests in multiple cities starting June 11, warning of an indefinite sit-in in the national capital if Pradhan does not resign.
Protest Expansion Across Cities
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the CJP outlined the next phase of its campaign. The protests will commence in Pune on June 11, followed by demonstrations in Lucknow, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Jaipur, and Hyderabad. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke also confirmed on X that climate activist Sonam Wangchuk will join the Pune protest.
Background of the Movement
The organization gained visibility through social media campaigns focusing on alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. The June 6 protest at Jantar Mantar saw students and young people from across the country gather to demand accountability and Pradhan's resignation. The CJP positions itself as a youth-led platform advocating for reforms in the education sector, calling on students, parents, teachers, and citizens to join what it describes as a nationwide struggle for justice.
Threat of Indefinite Sit-In
Organizers had earlier described the June 6 mobilization as the starting point of a broader campaign. Wednesday's announcement provided the clearest outline yet of that strategy, with protests planned across several states. The CJP warned that if their demand for the education minister's resignation remains unmet, the agitation could culminate in an indefinite sit-in at Jantar Mantar starting June 20.
