A shocking incident of alleged political violence has surfaced in Dasuya, where the husband of a recently elected Congress councillor was brutally attacked by a group of assailants in broad daylight. The victim, Bhulla Rana, who is also a former councillor, sustained serious injuries and has been hospitalised.
Details of the Attack
According to Rana, the incident occurred on Monday when he stepped out of his house. A defeated election rival, accompanied by four or five associates, allegedly intercepted him and assaulted him with sticks. Rana claimed that the attack was a direct result of political rivalry stemming from the recently concluded municipal elections.
Medical Response
Rana was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Dasuya, where doctors provided first aid. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to a higher medical centre for advanced treatment. His wife, Charanjit Kaur, won the municipal election this time, adding to the tension.
Political Reactions
Upon learning of the attack, the District Congress president reached the hospital to inquire about Rana's health and extend support to the family. Condemning the assault, he alleged that supporters of the ruling party were behind it, motivated by political vendetta. He stated, “Unable to accept their electoral defeat, the attackers resorted to violence. This attack is clear evidence that law and order has deteriorated in Punjab. The incident reflects a state of jungle raj where political opponents are being targeted through violence.”
Public Outrage and Police Action
The incident has sparked outrage among Congress workers and local residents, who have demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and strict action against those responsible. The police have launched an investigation into the matter and are examining the allegations made by the victim. Further details are awaited as the case develops.
