Cong MLA backs garbage dump relocation in Phagwara

Congress MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal on Sunday extended support to residents protesting against a garbage dumping site near Varinder Park in Phagwara. The site, located outside Professor Colony, has become a major health hazard, according to locals who demand its immediate relocation.

Protest and Health Concerns

The protest, organized by residents of Mehli Gate, Professor Colony, and Guru Harkishan Nagar, highlighted the unhygienic conditions caused by the dump. Dhaliwal noted that a gaushala, Shiv Temple, and Gurdwara Sahib are situated close to the site, aggravating public health and social concerns. He warned that the situation could worsen during the upcoming monsoon season, with increased risk of infections from flies, mosquitoes, and stray animals.

Congress Party's Stance

Reiterating the Congress party's commitment to public welfare, Dhaliwal said the party would raise the issue with relevant authorities. He urged the Municipal Corporation to immediately relocate the dump from densely populated areas and implement a foolproof system for daily garbage lifting until relocation is completed.
