The Congress party has strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged cover-up of irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The opposition party demanded that both leaders be held accountable for what it termed a deliberate attempt to conceal the truth behind the examination fiasco.
Congress Accuses Government of Cover-Up
In a press conference, Congress leaders alleged that the NTA, under the supervision of the education ministry, manipulated the NEET exam results to favor certain candidates. They claimed that the government was trying to protect those responsible for the irregularities rather than ensuring transparency and fairness in the examination process.
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera stated, 'The Prime Minister and the Education Minister cannot escape responsibility. They must answer why the NTA was allowed to compromise the integrity of such a crucial exam. The cover-up is evident, and the nation demands a thorough investigation.'
Demand for Independent Probe
The Congress party has called for an independent inquiry into the NEET exam irregularities, insisting that a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) should be formed to investigate the matter. They argued that the government's refusal to form a JPC indicates its complicity in the alleged cover-up.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, 'The government is trying to sweep this under the carpet. We will not allow them to hide the truth. The students and their parents deserve justice.'
Background of the Controversy
The NEET exam, which is the gateway for medical admissions in India, has been marred by controversies this year. Reports of question paper leaks, irregularities in the evaluation process, and discrepancies in the final results have led to widespread protests by students across the country. The NTA has faced severe criticism for its handling of the examination.
In response to the allegations, the Education Ministry has denied any wrongdoing and stated that the NTA conducted the exam in a fair and transparent manner. However, the Congress party remains unconvinced and has vowed to continue its agitation until a full-fledged investigation is ordered.
The opposition's demand for accountability comes ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in several states, adding a political dimension to the controversy. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has dismissed the Congress allegations as baseless and politically motivated.
