Congress Takes Disciplinary Action Against Fifth Haryana MLA for Rajya Sabha Cross-Voting
The Congress party has escalated its disciplinary measures by issuing a show-cause notice to Jarnail Singh, the fifth MLA from Haryana, in connection with alleged cross-voting during the recent Rajya Sabha election. This move underscores the party's crackdown on internal dissent and anti-party activities.
Notice Issued Early Friday Morning with Seven-Day Deadline
The show-cause notice was formally issued early Friday morning, as confirmed by party officials. Jarnail Singh, who represents the Ratia constituency, has been directed to submit his response within a strict timeframe of seven days. The party has explicitly warned that failure to comply with this deadline will result in further legal and disciplinary actions in accordance with established party rules and regulations.
Statement from Disciplinary Action Committee
Rohit Jain, the Member-Secretary of the Disciplinary Action Committee for the Haryana Congress, provided details on the issuance of the notice. He stated that the action was taken under the direct orders of committee chairman Dharmpal Malik, highlighting the seriousness with which the party is addressing the matter.
Allegations of Serious Breach of Party Discipline
The notice outlines specific allegations against the MLA, accusing him of casting his vote in a manner that deviated from the prescribed procedure and official party directives during the Rajya Sabha election. This alleged action reportedly led to the cancellation or invalidity of his vote. The notice further asserts that such conduct, if proven, constitutes a deliberate attempt to undermine the party's official stance, representing a severe breach of party discipline.
The notice explicitly states: "The aforesaid act, if established, appears to be a deliberate deviation intended to defeat the Party’s official position and constitutes a serious breach of party discipline. Such conduct amounts to anti-party activities and undermines the unity, integrity, and ideological commitments of the Party. It is also in clear violation of the Party Constitution, rules, and established norms."
Previous Notices to Four Other MLAs
This latest notice follows similar actions taken against four other Haryana legislators earlier. The party had previously issued show-cause notices to:
- Shalley Chaudhary, MLA from Naraingarh
- Renu Bala, MLA from Sadhaura (SC)
- Mohammad Ilyas, MLA from Punahana
- Mohammad Israil, MLA from Hathin
These prior notices were also related to allegations of cross-voting in the same Rajya Sabha election, indicating a broader pattern of disciplinary issues within the Haryana Congress unit.
Implications for Party Unity and Future Actions
The issuance of these notices reflects the Congress party's intensified efforts to enforce internal discipline and maintain unity ahead of critical political challenges. By targeting multiple MLAs, the party aims to send a strong message against any form of rebellion or deviation from its official line. The outcomes of these disciplinary proceedings could have significant implications for the political landscape in Haryana and the party's cohesion at the state level.
