Congress Leader: TVK Alliance Would Have Swept Tamil Nadu

Chennai: With TVK emerging as the single largest party in the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly election, Congress functionary Praveen Chakravarty on Monday asserted that if his party had allied with actor Vijay's party, the alliance would have swept the entire state.

Praveen's Advocacy for Congress-TVK Alliance

Praveen was a proponent of the Congress-TVK alliance even before the talks between DMK and Congress began. Although TVK became the single largest party, it still falls short of the 118-seat majority required to form the government. Praveen emphasized that a joint front between Congress and TVK would have easily formed the government.

"If Congress and TVK had joined hands, the alliance would have secured two-thirds of the total seats. If Rahul Gandhi and Vijay had come together, they would have swept Tamil Nadu," Praveen stated.

Election Landscape

The 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly election saw TVK pushing major parties like DMK and AIADMK to the margins. Meanwhile, in West Bengal, the BJP is projected to oust Mamata Banerjee, while retaining Assam. The Congress leader's remarks highlight the potential impact of a Congress-TVK alliance in altering the state's political dynamics.
