Congress MLA Sajid Pathan has alleged that he received a fresh death threat from a gangster, and accused Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of failing to act on a similar threat reported earlier this year. Pathan claimed that despite Fadnavis assuring him of safety during a phone conversation after the February threat, no progress was made on the case or any action taken.
Pathan Details Fresh Threat and Past Inaction
Speaking to reporters, Pathan stated that he was threatened over the phone by an individual claiming to be a gangster. The MLA said he immediately informed the police and also reached out to Fadnavis, recalling that a similar threat had been reported in February. “In February, I had reported a death threat. Fadnavis called me and assured me of safety, but since then, I have received no information on the case or any action taken,” Pathan said.
Pathan expressed frustration over the lack of progress, questioning the effectiveness of the assurances given. He said that the new threat has heightened his security concerns, especially given the previous inaction.
Reaction from Authorities and Political Implications
As of now, no official statement has been issued by the Maharashtra government or the Deputy Chief Minister's office regarding Pathan's allegations. The police have registered a case based on Pathan's complaint and are investigating the matter.
The incident has sparked political debate, with Congress leaders rallying behind Pathan and criticizing the state government's handling of law and order. They have demanded a thorough investigation and immediate security measures for the MLA.
Pathan's allegations come amid heightened political tensions in Maharashtra, where opposition parties have frequently accused the ruling coalition of neglecting security concerns of elected representatives.
