Chennai: Congress MP S Jothimani has alleged massive irregularities within the party regarding constituency allocation and the candidate selection process for the 2026 assembly election in Tamil Nadu. In a post on X on Friday, she stated that senior party workers, who have served the party for decades, and individuals with genuine winning prospects were sidelined, while newcomers and candidates with little or no electoral prospects were given opportunities.

Jothimani questioned the rationale behind forming a committee to investigate alleged anti-party activities during the election before conducting an inquiry into the procedures followed in allocating constituencies and selecting candidates. She argued that forming a committee only to investigate alleged anti-party activities during the election was merely an arrangement to protect those who were actually responsible for the wrongdoing.
Questions Raised
“Some of those who contested elections either left the party or became inactive within days after the election. Who gave these individuals party tickets? On what basis were they selected? What action was taken against those responsible for these mistakes?” she asked.
Rules and Authority
She said that according to Congress party rules, allegations against state units can only be investigated by the All-India Congress Committee. Office-bearers of the Tamil Nadu Pradesh Congress Committee do not have the authority to conduct any inquiry, she added.
