Congress MP from Uttar Pradesh Tanuj Punia on Saturday called for the dissolution of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and sought its replacement with a new, transparent and accountable Trust comprising religious leaders, eminent citizens, administrative experts and independent members.
Demand for forensic audit
Addressing a press conference along with local party leaders, including District Congress Chief Rajinder Beri, former minister Raj Kumar Verka and others, Punia said a comprehensive forensic audit of donations and offerings must be undertaken. "A comprehensive forensic audit should be conducted of all donations, offerings, land purchases, events and expenditures related to the Ram Temple, and the report should be made public," he said.
Questions over transparency
The Congress leaders raised questions, saying, "If nothing wrong has happened, why is there resistance to an independent investigation under the supervision of the Supreme Court? Poor people, farmers, labourers, women and devotees from every corner of the country contributed their hard-earned money, jewellery, savings and devotion for the construction of the Ram Temple. For nearly three decades, the BJP, RSS, VHP and Sangh Parivar organisations sought donations in the name of Lord Ram and built a political movement around the issue, eventually coming to power."
They said those very devotees were today compelled to ask who misused or looted the donations and offerings made in the name of Lord Ram, and under whose protection it happened.
