The Communist Party of India (CPI) has strongly condemned the government's decision to form a new panel on demographic changes, accusing it of deepening societal polarisation. In a statement released on Wednesday, the CPI termed the move 'another dangerous attempt' to target minorities and undermine their citizenship rights.
CPI's Allegations
Under the guise of addressing 'demographic concerns', the government is once again attempting to snatch away the citizenship rights of millions of Indians, the CPI said. The party alleged that the panel is a ploy to create divisions along religious lines and distract from pressing issues like unemployment and inflation.
Government's Defence
The government, however, has maintained that the panel is intended to study population trends and ensure balanced development. Officials argue that demographic shifts have implications for resource allocation and policy planning, and the panel will provide data-driven recommendations.
The CPI's criticism comes amid heightened political tensions over minority rights and national identity. The party has called for opposition unity to thwart what it describes as a 'communal agenda' by the ruling dispensation.
Political analysts suggest the move could further polarise the electorate ahead of upcoming state elections. The CPI has urged citizens to remain vigilant and resist any attempts to divide the country on communal lines.
