The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has expressed concern that the Congress party’s anti-Left campaign in Kerala is undermining the unity of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A.) bloc. The statement was made by party leader Baby at a press conference on Monday, a day after the conclusion of the CPI(M) Central Committee’s three-day meeting in New Delhi.
Central Committee Meeting Highlights
During the meeting, CPI(M) leaders deliberated on the political situation across the country. They agreed that there has been a consolidation of Hindutva communal forces in West Bengal, which poses a significant challenge to secular and democratic forces. The party also assessed the performance of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc and the need to strengthen opposition unity ahead of future electoral battles.
Impact on I.N.D.I.A. Bloc Unity
Baby emphasized that the Congress party’s aggressive anti-Left rhetoric in Kerala is counterproductive to the broader objective of maintaining a united opposition front. He stated that such campaigns weaken the I.N.D.I.A. alliance, which was formed to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies. The CPI(M) urged the Congress to adopt a more collaborative approach in states where both parties are part of the coalition.
The press conference also touched upon the party’s strategy for upcoming elections, including in West Bengal and other states. The CPI(M) reiterated its commitment to secularism and social justice, calling for a united effort to defeat communal forces.
