Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, during a campaign event in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Tuesday, strongly emphasized that empowering women must take precedence over political restructuring efforts like delimitation. She asserted that the primary focus should be on implementing the 33% reservation for women in legislative bodies, scheduled to commence from 2029, rather than engaging in boundary-redrawing exercises.

In her address, Gupta clearly stated, "What is more important than delimitation is ensuring 33% reservation for women from 2029. We have given this assurance to the women across the country." This declaration underscores her commitment to advancing gender equality through legislative measures, positioning it as a critical national priority that outweighs other political processes.
Gupta made these remarks while campaigning for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Vanathi Srinivasan in the Coimbatore North constituency. She was accompanied by leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and Vanathi Srinivasan's second son, Kailash, during the campaign stop at Venkatapuram on Thadagam Road.
Appeal for Voter Support and Critique of Tamil Nadu's Development
During the public gathering, Gupta appealed to voters to support the BJP and cast their ballots for the party's lotus symbol. She highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is experiencing steady progress, but noted that Tamil Nadu is lagging in development compared to other regions.
"People in Tamil Nadu are also seeking this growth. A major political change is needed, and NDA will secure victory in the state," Gupta proclaimed, signaling a push for electoral success in the upcoming polls. She described Vanathi Srinivasan as a capable leader with strong public backing and predicted a decisive win for the BJP candidate.
Visit to Ailing Candidate and Personal Gestures
Earlier in the day, Gupta visited Vanathi Srinivasan, who has been undergoing medical treatment at a private hospital since April 10. After offering prayers at Tirupati, she wished the candidate a speedy recovery, demonstrating personal concern and solidarity within the party ranks.
