The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday appointed Director General of Police (DGP) A Amalraj, a 1996-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, as the new Chennai city police commissioner. The order, issued by Additional Chief Secretary to the state government K Manivasan, took immediate effect.

In a separate reshuffle, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Abhin Dinesh Modak has been transferred to head the Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID), replacing ADGP TS Anbu. Both officers have been directed to assume their new charges without delay.
