DMK Grapples with Electoral Threats in Trichy District
The DMK, which has historically maintained a firm grip on all nine assembly constituencies in Trichy district, is now confronting a significant electoral challenge. This shift in dynamics follows the entry of high-profile opponents, including TVK leader Vijay and lottery baron Santiago Martin's family member, Leema Rose Martin, who are contesting on the AIADMK ticket.
Alliance Unity Called to Counter Rising Opposition
In response to these formidable candidates, the combined DMK Trichy district units organized an all-allies meeting on Wednesday. The primary objective was to emphasize unity within the alliance to secure victory in the upcoming elections. With Vijay contesting in Trichy East and Leema Rose Martin in the Lalgudi constituency, alongside other experienced contenders like ex-MLAs and ex-MPs in various seats, the DMK leadership is urging concerted efforts.
DMK ministers K N Nehru and Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi addressed the gathering, stressing the need for alliance party functionaries to overcome internal differences and collaborate effectively. Nehru, who is also the Trichy West candidate and DMK's principal secretary, outlined practical strategies for coordination.
Strategic Measures for Electoral Success
Nehru advised all candidates to obtain detailed lists of in-charge members from every alliance party in their respective constituencies and maintain regular communication. "Candidates should meet and respect the functionaries of the alliance parties throughout the election period," he stated. "With star and wealthy candidates contesting in our district, only hard work can fetch victory."
School Education Minister and Thiruverumbur DMK candidate Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of coordination with local leaders. He emphasized that winning all nine constituencies is crucial for the DMK to recapture power, urging party workers to work closely with alliance partners.
Monitoring and Addressing Internal Challenges
The meeting was attended by district secretaries from the north, central, and south DMK Trichy units. They were instructed to vigilantly monitor any potential disappointments or communication gaps within the alliance that could undermine unity.
