Domestic LPG Price Hiked by Rs 29, Second Rise in 3 Months

The cost of a domestic LPG cylinder has been raised by Rs 29 per 14.2-kilogram cylinder, marking the second price increase in the last three months. The revised prices took effect on June 7, 2026.

New Prices Across Cities

In the national capital Delhi, a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder now costs Rs 942, up from the previous rate of Rs 913. Similarly, in Bengaluru, the price has increased to Rs 944.5 from Rs 915.5. Other cities are expected to see comparable hikes, with variations based on local taxes and transportation costs.

Reasons Behind the Hike

The price revision is attributed to fluctuations in global crude oil prices and changes in the benchmark rates for liquefied petroleum gas. State-owned oil marketing companies adjust domestic LPG prices monthly based on the average international contract price. The recent surge in West Asia tensions has also contributed to higher import costs.

Impact on Households

This increase adds to the financial burden on households already grappling with rising inflation. The previous hike in March 2026 had raised prices by Rs 20 per cylinder. Consumers are advised to use LPG efficiently and consider alternatives like induction cooktops to mitigate expenses.

Government Subsidy Status

Under the Ujjwala scheme, eligible households receive a subsidy on LPG cylinders. However, the subsidy amount has been reduced in recent budgets. For non-subsidized users, the full market price applies. The government has not announced any immediate relief measures following this hike.

Oil companies review LPG prices on the first of every month, and further adjustments cannot be ruled out if global prices remain elevated.
