The debate over who will portray the iconic superhero Shaktimaan on the big screen continues to generate buzz. Now, veteran actor Lalit Parimoo, who appeared in the original television series alongside Mukesh Khanna, has shared his perspective. He suggests that the ongoing controversy surrounding Ranveer Singh's potential casting might be intentional noise rather than a genuine dispute. Let us delve into his detailed insights.
Lalit Parimoo Questions the Authenticity of the Controversy
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Lalit Parimoo was asked about Mukesh Khanna's claim that Ranveer Singh spent three hours trying to convince him to approve his casting as Shaktimaan, only to be rejected. Parimoo responded, "I do not wish to say anything against Mukesh ji. It is up to him what he chooses to do. Today's era is all about publicity, and people engage in publicity gimmicks for films and TV shows. One has to deliberately create news. I think he is playing along those lines." He added that only time will reveal the truth behind this episode.
Lalit Parimoo Praises Ranveer Singh but Expresses Doubts
Parimoo did express support for Ranveer Singh's potential in the role, praising his recent performance in Dhurandhar and stating that the actor has the necessary qualities. However, he voiced reservations about the film itself. "I do not think the Shaktimaan film will capture the same magic as the TV show. So much material has already been covered in those 350 episodes. But we cannot predict audience preferences. If today's generation watches a superhero movie, they will expect international standards. Anything below that will not appeal to them. Unless it is made at a technologically high level, it will not have the same impact," he said.
Mukesh Khanna's Stance on Ranveer Singh
Mukesh Khanna has consistently opposed Ranveer Singh playing the iconic superhero. In an interview with Bollywood Thikana, he remarked, "That poor guy (Ranveer Singh) sat in front of me for three hours. But his face does not reflect what it takes to play Shaktimaan. He looks fickle, as if he might con someone. However, he is a terrific actor."
More About the Shaktimaan Film
In 2022, Sony Pictures announced Shaktimaan as a trilogy, aiming to revive the beloved desi superhero for a new generation. The announcement video stated, "After the super success of our many superhero films in India and globally, it is time for our desi superhero!" The studio also confirmed a partnership with Brewing Thoughts Private Limited and Mukesh Khanna's Bheeshm International. However, no official casting announcement has been made to date.
