Drunk Man Rescued from Temple Tank Near Chennai

Chennai: A drunk man who found himself stranded in the middle of a temple tank near the Thiruporur Kandhaswamy temple was rescued by fire and rescue personnel on Wednesday morning. The incident took place at the Saravana Poigai temple tank, which adjoins the main temple.

How the Incident Unfolded

The man swam across the water and reached the Neerazhi Mandapam, a structure located at the centre of the tank. However, he was unable to swim back to the shore. According to fire and rescue services personnel, the tank is deep and filled with slush, and several fatal accidents have been reported there in the past.

Precautions and Breach

The temple administration has locked entry points on all four sides of the tank, allowing access only through a small opening near the southern entrance. Despite these precautions, the drunk man managed to enter the tank and make his way to the mandapam. When he could not return, he began shouting for help.
