A 29-year-old dumper driver lost his life after his vehicle crashed through a bridge railing and plunged into the Betwa river in Hamirpur district. The accident occurred at around 1:30 am late Wednesday night, according to police officials.
Details of the accident
The dumper was traveling from Kanpur to Mahoba when the driver lost control. The vehicle broke through the bridge railing and fell into the river. The deceased was identified as Rajkumar, a resident of Miraj Purwa, Ragaul, under Maudaha police station. His identity was confirmed through an Aadhaar card found on his person.
Rescue operation
Upon receiving information about the accident, Kotwali Nagar Police launched a rescue operation. With the assistance of local boatmen, police managed to extricate the driver, who was trapped inside the cabin of the submerged dumper. He was immediately rushed to the district hospital via ambulance, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Preliminary investigation
According to police, the preliminary assessment suggests that the dumper went out of control before crashing through the bridge railing and falling into the river. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the accident.
