An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Saturday, July 4, 2026. The operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

Details of the Operation

According to officials, a joint team of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off the suspected locality in the early hours. As the forces were conducting a search operation, the terrorists opened fire, triggering the encounter.

“The operation is underway. Additional forces have been rushed to the spot to neutralize the terrorists,” a police official said.

This is the second encounter in the Kashmir Valley in the past 48 hours. Earlier, two terrorists were killed in an operation in Pulwama district.
