AIADMK Leader EPS Condemns DMK Government Over Security Failures in Tamil Nadu
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami launched a scathing attack on the ruling DMK government on Sunday, alleging severe security lapses in Tamil Nadu that permitted terror suspects to reside in the state. Speaking at a public meeting, EPS highlighted the recent arrest of six terror suspects by Delhi police in Tirupur district as a prime example of the state's deteriorating law and order situation.
Security Lapses and Terror Threats Under Scrutiny
Palaniswami pointedly questioned the effectiveness of Tamil Nadu's Anti-Terrorism Squad, accusing it of failing to detect the presence of these suspects until central agencies intervened. He emphasized that what was once perceived as a state grappling with murders and robberies due to governmental failures has now escalated to a critical level where terror suspects are allegedly plotting attacks from within Tamil Nadu.
"The law and order situation has worsened to the extent of terror suspects plotting attacks from TN," EPS asserted, underscoring the gravity of the security breach.
Historical Incidents and Proactive Failures
Referring to the 2022 Coimbatore car blast, Palaniswami criticized the DMK government for attempting to downplay the incident by labeling it a "cylinder explosion" rather than acknowledging it as a terror threat. He warned that allowing the current administration to continue could lead to a repeat of horrific events, specifically invoking the 1998 Coimbatore serial bomb blasts as a grim reminder of past tragedies.
"Repeated arrests by central agencies such as the NIA show the state government's failure to act proactively," EPS stated, accusing the DMK of allowing internal security to deteriorate significantly.
Political Counterattacks and Alliance Dynamics
In a later public meeting at Ponneri in Chennai, EPS responded to deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin's remark calling him a slave of the BJP. "If I am a slave, what would you call your grandfather (M Karunanidhi), who was in alliance with Vajpayee's BJP?" he retorted, adding, "I am not anyone's slave. Your grandfather was."
Shifting focus to political alliances, Palaniswami claimed that the DMK front is experiencing internal strains:
- The Congress party is reportedly seeking more seats and a share in power.
- The VCK is keeping its options open.
- The DMDK is eyeing the deputy chief minister's post.
In contrast, he asserted that the AIADMK alliance remains united and focused on returning to power in the 2026 elections. EPS concluded by calling for an end to the DMK government to restore peace and security in Tamil Nadu, emphasizing the urgent need for proactive measures to prevent future security breaches.
