The family of Babita Pandey, a trekker who went missing in Uttarakhand, has made an emotional appeal for her safe return. As the search operation stretches into its second week, the family's agony continues to mount. Babita, a resident of Haldwani, was last seen on June 5 while trekking in the Kumaon region.
Search Operations Intensify
Authorities have expanded the search across multiple districts, including Nainital, Almora, and Pithoragarh. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local police, and mountaineering experts are combing through dense forests and rugged terrain. Drones and sniffer dogs have also been deployed to aid the efforts.
“We just want our daughter back safe,” said Babita’s mother, her voice trembling with emotion. The family has been living in a state of constant anxiety, hoping for any news about her whereabouts.
Community Support
Local villagers have joined the search, forming groups to scour nearby areas. Social media campaigns have also been launched, urging people to share any information that might lead to Babita’s recovery. The district administration has set up a helpline for tips.
Babita, an experienced trekker, had informed her family about her route before leaving. However, she failed to return on the expected date, prompting the family to file a missing person report.
Challenges in the Search
The terrain in the region is challenging, with steep slopes and thick vegetation. Weather conditions have also been unpredictable, with intermittent rain hampering visibility. Despite these obstacles, rescue teams remain determined.
“We are leaving no stone unturned,” said a senior police officer overseeing the operation. “Our teams are working round-the-clock to trace her.”
The case has drawn attention from across the state, with many praying for Babita’s safe return. The family continues to hold onto hope, trusting the authorities’ efforts.
