A tragic accident occurred on Saturday night in Kharaura village, Fatehgarh Sahib district, where a 67-year-old farmer was electrocuted while irrigating his fields. The victim, identified as Jarnail Singh, died instantly after coming into contact with a live wire while switching on an electric water pump.

Details of the Incident

According to a family member, Kulwinder Singh, Jarnail Singh had gone to his fields as part of his daily routine to irrigate crops. While turning on the pump, he accidentally touched a live wire, resulting in a severe electric shock. The intensity of the shock was such that he succumbed on the spot before anyone could reach him for help.

Community Response and Demands for Compensation

A large number of villagers and farmer leaders gathered to condole the bereaved family. They urged the Punjab Government to provide adequate financial compensation to the victim’s family. The incident has highlighted ongoing concerns about farm safety and the risks faced by farmers while handling electrical equipment in fields.
