Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced a significant rise in India's female workforce participation rate, from 23% in 2017 to 40% in 2025. This milestone reflects the government's focused efforts on women's empowerment and economic inclusion.
Government Initiatives Driving Change
The increase is attributed to various schemes such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, and Stand-Up India. These programs have provided financial support, skill development, and entrepreneurship opportunities for women.
Impact on Economy
Higher female participation is expected to boost GDP growth and reduce gender disparity. Mandaviya emphasized that women are now contributing significantly to sectors like manufacturing, services, and agriculture.
- Improved access to education and vocational training
- Enhanced safety measures in workplaces
- Flexible work arrangements post-pandemic
Challenges Ahead
Despite progress, challenges such as wage gaps, informal employment, and social norms persist. The government plans to introduce more policies to sustain this growth.
Mandaviya stated, "Empowering women is not just a social goal but an economic necessity. Our aim is to achieve 50% participation by 2030."
The data was presented during a review meeting of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, highlighting the positive trend in female labor force participation across states.
