Four Minors Drown in Amravati Pond During Picnic

In a tragic incident on Sunday afternoon, four minors, including a brother and sister from Mahajanpura, lost their lives after drowning in a pond located behind Dr. Rajendra Gode College on Mardi Road in Amravati. What began as a routine picnic turned into a devastating loss within minutes.

Sequence of Events

According to preliminary information, a group of boys and girls had gathered at the pond for a picnic. After having lunch around 2 pm, Sonali Narendra Joshi (16) reportedly entered the water to take photographs. She slipped and began drowning. Witnessing her struggle, her younger brother Aditya (12), along with Payal Bablu Pandit (14) and Yash Gajanan Kakne (13), rushed into the pond in a desperate attempt to save her. Tragically, all four got trapped in deep sludge inside the pond and drowned before help could arrive.

Rescue Operation

Others on the bank raised an alarm and informed local residents, who alerted the Frazerpura police. Police from Kholapuri Gate police station also reached the spot. A rescue operation led by police inspector Roshan Shrisath was launched, and the District Disaster Response Force (DDRF) was pressed into service. After strenuous efforts, the bodies of all four children were recovered. The bodies were sent to the mortuary of Irwin Hospital for postmortem examination.

Investigation Underway

Frazerpura police conducted a panchnama and registered a case, while further investigation is underway. The heartbreaking incident has left Mahajanpura and surrounding areas numb with shock. Grief hangs heavy over the locality as families and residents struggle to come to terms with the sudden and irreparable loss of four young lives.
