A devastating road accident occurred in Coimbatore on Monday afternoon, claiming the lives of four members of a family. The incident took place on the Pollachi-Palladam Main Road when a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) collided head-on with a truck.
Details of the Accident
According to police officials from the Negamam station, the MPV was traveling from Pollachi towards Palladam. A lorry coming from the opposite direction lost control, veered off its path, and crashed head-on into the MPV. The impact was severe, resulting in instant fatalities for three occupants.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as K Dhanapal (37), his wife D Menaga (35), their daughter D Kaniska (17), and a relative Sneha (23), all residents of Kadayampatty in Salem district. Dhanapal, Menaga, and Sneha succumbed to their injuries at the crash site, while Kaniska was declared dead upon arrival at the Pollachi Government Hospital.
Survivor and Medical Response
The couple's 12-year-old son, Surjith, was the sole survivor of the crash. He sustained multiple injuries and received emergency first aid at Pollachi before being transferred to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for advanced specialist treatment. His condition is reported to be stable.
Legal Action and Investigation
Police have arrested the truck driver, identified as M Saravanan (39), from Krishnagiri district. He has been charged with rash and negligent driving causing death. A case has been registered, and the bodies of the four deceased have been moved to the Pollachi Government Headquarters Hospital for postmortem examination.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Pollachi, visited the accident site to oversee the initial inquiry. Further investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the collision.
