Ghaziabad: Two New Ramps on Hindon Elevated Road to Start in a Month
Ghaziabad: Two New Ramps on Hindon Elevated Road in a Month

The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has confirmed that construction on two new ramps to enhance connectivity to the Hindon Elevated Road from Indirapuram and Vasundhara will commence within a month and is projected to be finished in 18 months. The design for the project has been finalized, paving the way for the tender process.

Current Ramp Configuration

The Hindon Elevated Road currently features two ramps. The Vasundhara ramp facilitates entry onto the elevated road for vehicles heading from UP Gate toward Raj Nagar Extension (RNE). Conversely, the Kanawani ramp in Indirapuram allows vehicles traveling from RNE toward UP Gate to exit. However, there is no ramp at Vasundhara for traffic moving toward UP Gate, nor a ramp at Kanawani for vehicles heading toward Indirapuram. The two proposed ramps are designed to fill these gaps.

Project Details

Tenders for the Rs 90-crore project will be floated within 10 days, according to a GDA official. The ramps will vary in length: 590 meters on the Indirapuram side and 620 meters on the Vasundhara side, each with a carriageway width of 7.5 meters. They will run parallel to the existing ramps and are engineered to allow vehicles to maintain speeds between 40 and 50 km/h.

Construction will utilize prestressed concrete girders, which resist tension from heavy structural loads through compressive forces applied via stretched steel tendons. Precast girders will be placed at a center-to-center spacing of 30 meters, enabling the structure to bear the weight of heavy vehicles. The 7.5-meter carriage width ensures easy maneuverability, the official added.

Traffic Flow Enhancements

Two rotaries with a 50-meter diameter will be constructed at ground level at the ends of the ramps to facilitate unrestricted traffic flow without the need for signals.

The Hindon Elevated Road, commissioned in 2018, connects UP Gate at the Ghazipur border with Raj Nagar Extension, reducing travel time on the corridor from 45 minutes to just 10. The new ramps are expected to significantly ease access to the bustling residential townships of Indirapuram and Vasundhara.
