GMDA Demolishes Over 15 Illegal Shops in Gurgaon

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) demolished more than 15 unauthorised shops constructed along the multiutility corridor in Sector 90 during an anti-encroachment drive on Tuesday. Officials stated that these structures were illegally built on land designated for public utilities and urban infrastructure.

Drive Led by Senior Officials

The operation was led by GMDA District Town Planner R.S. Batth, alongside enforcement wing officials. Approximately 15 police personnel were deployed at the site to maintain law and order. Using earthmovers, the team cleared the encroachments and issued warnings to violators against carrying out unauthorised construction on public land.

GMDA officials emphasised that utility corridors are intended for planned urban development, and encroachments obstruct public services and development works.

Additional Operations Across Sectors

A similar drive was conducted on Wednesday along master roads of Sectors 50-57, 51-57, and 90-91. The enforcement team removed illegal gates, ramps, kiosks, carts, and other structures built on green belts and service roads.

Officials reported that nearly a 1.5-kilometre stretch along the dividing road of Sectors 51-57 was cleared, while about 600 metres of encroachment was removed along the dividing road of Sectors 50-57. Gates installed by residents and commercial establishments on public land were demolished during the drive.

The team also razed unauthorised ramps extending onto service roads and removed carts, temporary kiosks, and commercial setups occupying green belt areas.

Directions to Residents and Businesses

Residents and commercial establishments were directed to stop parking vehicles on green belts and instead use designated stilt parking spaces. Officials also instructed violators to remove tiles laid on green belts for parking purposes within five days.

Along the Sector 90-91 stretch, the team cleared shanties, commercial carts, and illegal extensions by shops and restaurants built on government land. Officials said around 1.5 kilometres of the stretch was inspected and partially cleared, with another round of demolition scheduled before June 7.

Future Plans

An official noted, "An MoU has been signed for the development of green belts along the Sector 90-91 corridor, but work can begin only after complete vacation of encroached land to ensure planned execution."

Batth stated that similar enforcement drives would continue across the city, including along the Sector 44-45 master dividing road. "Any unauthorised structure on GMDA land or right of way will not be tolerated," he warned.
