Goa BJP Councillor's Son Arrested in Minor Sexual Exploitation Case

PANAJI: Soham Naik, the son of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor from Goa and a resident of Madhegal, Cacora, was arrested on Sunday following public outcry. Locals gathered outside the police station demanding swift action against him for serious allegations involving minor victims.

Details of the Allegations and Police Investigation

Naik is accused of sexually exploiting several minor victims, recording obscene videos of the incidents, and circulating these videos online. South Goa Superintendent of Police Santosh Desai confirmed that the first First Information Report (FIR) was registered initially, with two more FIRs added based on statements from survivors. Soham Naik is being treated as the prime suspect in this case, and police are questioning several other individuals connected to the investigation.

Authorities revealed that both the accused, 20-year-old Soham Sushant Naik, and the survivors were minors when the alleged incidents occurred approximately three years ago while they were in college. Deputy Inspector General Varsha Sharma stated that mobile devices belonging to the accused will undergo forensic examination to gather digital evidence. She clarified that no survivors appear in the video clips recovered so far, and the FIRs are being registered solely on the basis of complaints filed by the victims.

A local court has remanded him in four-day police custody to facilitate further investigation. In a significant development, the alleged sex scandal has been transferred from the local police to the state crime branch for a more thorough and specialized probe.

Political Reactions and Public Outcry

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of shielding the councillor's son. He alleged that the accused exploited 30 minor girls over a span of three years, filming them and using the videos for blackmail. Kejriwal called for the harshest punishment for the accused and demanded justice for the survivors.

In a post on social media platform X, Kejriwal stated, "What kind of demons are there in the BJP? In Goa, an extremely repulsive case has come to light where the son of a BJP councilor has been sexually exploiting 30 minor girls for three years, filming them, and blackmailing them. The BJP has turned people's lives in Goa into hell. Everyone is living under the shadow of fear." He further added, "Protecting such monsters is fatal for society. No demon should even think of doing this again."

The case has sparked widespread public outrage, with many demanding stringent action against the accused and accountability from political figures. The involvement of a BJP councillor's son has added a political dimension to the scandal, drawing attention from various political parties and civil society groups.
