Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test Faces Irregularity Allegations

The Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) Level-3, conducted on July 4 for the Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) examination, has been embroiled in controversy following allegations of seal-tampering, missing questions, and multiple typographical errors. Candidates who raised concerns were reportedly told that the question papers had been received from the Haryana Board of School Education (HBSE) in the same condition.

Allegations of Irregularities

Reports from Rewari and Kaithal indicated that candidates found discrepancies between the serial numbers on question papers and OMR sheets. Similar complaints were received from Dadri and several other examination centres across the state. These irregularities have sparked demands for a re-test, with the Congress party alleging “large-scale irregularities” in the examination.

HBSE Chairman’s Response

HBSE chairman Shankar Lal Dhopra denied the possibility of a question paper leak, stating that the entire process—from the handling of question papers to their sealing and transportation to examination centres—was video-graphed and recorded at every stage. “There was no scope left for error at any stage. It is absolutely impossible that question papers could have been leaked,” he said.

Addressing the errors and irregularities, Dhopra acknowledged that small mistakes, including grammatical or typographical errors, could have occurred. He assured that these would be compensated at the time of evaluation. “As is the practice, open objections would be invited where the candidate could point out the errors. Those will be compensated. Rest assured, we are committed to doing justice to the candidates,” he added.

Examination Conduct and Transparency

The examination was conducted at 383 centres across Haryana. Dhopra emphasized that the process was fair and transparent, dismissing allegations of a leak. Despite his assurances, the controversy has raised concerns among candidates and political parties, with calls for a thorough investigation into the matter.
