Renu Bhatia, the chairperson of the Haryana State Women's Commission, resigned from her post on Tuesday, citing a prolonged visit to the United States as the reason for stepping down.
Resignation Details
Bhatia expressed gratitude to former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for giving her the opportunity to serve in the role. In her statement, she said, "I will continue to fight for the rights and dignity of women. If entrusted with any responsibility in the future, I will discharge it with the same dedication and sincerity."
Context of Resignation
Her resignation comes amid protests by nurses at government hospitals. The nurses were reportedly upset over Bhatia's alleged behaviour during a recent visit to a hospital where she had gone to inquire into allegations that a doctor had sexually abused a minor. The exact nature of the alleged behaviour has not been disclosed.
Bhatia's tenure as chairperson saw her involved in various initiatives aimed at women's welfare and safety in Haryana. Her departure leaves a vacancy in the commission, which is expected to be filled by the state government in due course.
