Hazaribag: In a significant breakthrough, police arrested a member of the Rahul Dubey-led criminal gang during a raid conducted late on Friday in the Lohsinghna police station limits. The accused was found in possession of arms and ammunition, officials confirmed on Saturday.
Details of the Operation
During a press conference held on Saturday, Barkagaon Subdivisional Police Officer (SDPO) Amit Anand revealed that Hazaribag Superintendent of Police (SP) Aman Kumar had received intelligence on Friday evening about the gang's plan to commit a crime in Rotra village. Acting on this tip-off, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Anand conducted a raid near the municipal dumping yard in Rotra and apprehended Jiaul Rahman alias Mojammil, aged 25.
Recovered Items
From the possession of the accused, police recovered a pistol with a magazine, two live cartridges, an empty magazine, five spent cartridges, and a mobile phone. The seizure underscores the gang's preparedness for violent activities.
Interrogation Revelations
During interrogation, the accused confessed that he was part of a plan to create panic and carry out firing incidents for extortion in the vicinity of Banadag railway siding. This area had been identified as a target for the gang's criminal operations.
Legal Action
Police have booked the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act. He has been remanded to judicial custody. Authorities have launched a manhunt to apprehend other members of the gang who are still at large.
