Hidden Luxury Flat Found in Trinamool Leader's Home

Howrah police on Tuesday uncovered a concealed luxury flat within a four-storey building during a raid on the Shibpur residence of Trinamool Congress leader Shamim Ahmed, also known as Baare. The operation followed allegations that Baare orchestrated a bombing and firing attack on a BJP minority cell victory procession in Shil Para Lane on the day of the election results, leaving one pedestrian and two minority cell functionaries injured.

Details of the Raid

Initially, the house appeared ordinary, but officers discovered a staircase and a trap-door leading to a hidden second-floor flat. While the rest of the building had basic furnishings, the concealed section boasted luxury interiors, including CCTV cameras, a bedroom, living room, kitchen, and bathroom. Locals reported that the raid also unearthed a teak bed with gold panels, although police declined to confirm this detail. Police stated that the value of the items will be assessed.

Political Reactions

BJP leader Omprakash Singh accused Baare of extortion, while former minister Arup Roy said the guilty should face action if evidence emerges. Baare, who is the president of HMC ward 36, has been absconding along with his family. His wife, Shamima Bano, is the Trinamool councillor of the same ward.
