Himachal Panchayat Leaders Take Oath, CM Leads Anti-Drug Drive

Shimla: Newly elected panchayat pradhans and up-pradhans across 11 of Himachal Pradesh's 12 districts were administered the oath of office and secrecy on Monday. The oath-taking ceremony for Kangra district is scheduled for June 18, where Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will administer the oath.

Oath-Taking Ceremony in Shimla

In Shimla district, Education Minister Rohit Thakur administered the oath to the elected representatives in the presence of the Chief Minister at Peterhoff Hotel. The event marked a significant step in strengthening grassroots governance.

Chief Minister's Anti-Drug Pledge

During the event, Chief Minister Sukhu administered the anti-heroin pledge, urging the elected representatives to actively participate in the fight against drug abuse. He called upon them to work towards creating ‘chitta-free panchayats' and a drug-free society. Sukhu emphasized that panchayats act as a crucial link between the government and the people.

Congratulating the newly elected leaders, Sukhu expressed confidence that they would work with dedication to promote development and ensure effective implementation of welfare schemes at the grassroots level. He encouraged panchayat representatives to promote sports, education, and cultural activities to steer youth away from drugs.

Focus on Rural Development

Sukhu highlighted the state government's ongoing efforts to strengthen the rural economy and improve education, healthcare, employment generation, environmental sustainability, and social welfare. The Chief Minister's message underscored the importance of collaborative governance in addressing key challenges.
