Hooda Accuses BJP Mayoral Candidate in Panchkula Road Scam
Congress MP Deepender Hooda has leveled serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party's mayoral candidate in Panchkula, claiming the candidate is implicated in a road construction scam. Hooda, who represents the Rohtak constituency in the Lok Sabha, made the accusation during a press conference on Wednesday, demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.
According to Hooda, the BJP's pick for the mayor's post in Panchkula has been named in a case involving fraudulent road construction projects that caused significant financial loss to the state exchequer. He cited documents and complaints filed with the local administration, alleging that the candidate misappropriated funds meant for infrastructure development.
Hooda further criticized the BJP for fielding candidates with questionable backgrounds, stating that it reflects the party's disregard for clean governance. He urged the Election Commission and the state government to take immediate action and ensure that those accused of corruption are not allowed to contest elections.
The BJP, however, dismissed Hooda's allegations as baseless and politically motivated. Party spokesperson said that the candidate is innocent and the accusations are part of a smear campaign ahead of the municipal elections. The BJP candidate has also denied any wrongdoing, asserting that all projects were executed as per norms.
The Panchkula municipal elections are scheduled for next month, with both major parties gearing up for a fierce contest. The road construction scam allegations have added a new dimension to the campaign, with Hooda vowing to raise the issue at every public forum.
