IIT Goa Student Missing, Feared Drowned in Rivulet

A Sunday outing turned tragic when a 21-year-old IIT Goa student from Ladakh went missing and is feared to have drowned in the Okamb rivulet at Dharbandora. The incident occurred on a weekend picnic that turned into a nightmare for a group of around eight youths.

Incident Details

Imtiyaz Hussain, the missing student, was part of a group that had ventured to the rivulet behind the Sanjivani sugar factory for a swim. According to witnesses, Hussain suddenly disappeared beneath the water, prompting an immediate search.

Search Operation

Ponda police, along with personnel from the fire and emergency services attached to the Ponda fire station, launched a search operation. Despite their efforts, Hussain could not be traced till late evening, said Ponda PI Mohan Gaude.

He added that the search operation will resume on Monday morning. The local authorities are coordinating with divers and specialized rescue teams to locate the missing student.
