India successfully test-fired the short-range ballistic missile Agni-1 from the integrated test range at Chandipur in Odisha on Friday, the defence ministry announced. The launch validated all operational and technical parameters, according to an official statement.
Strategic Forces Command Conducts Launch
The test was carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command, the ministry said, highlighting the missile's role in India's nuclear deterrence capabilities. The Agni-1 is a single-stage, solid-fueled missile with a range of 700 to 1,200 kilometers, capable of carrying conventional or nuclear warheads.
Agni Missile Series Overview
The Agni series includes Agni-1 to Agni-4, with ranges varying from 700 km to 3,500 km. All these missiles have already been deployed and form the backbone of India's strategic deterrent. The successful test reaffirms the reliability and readiness of the country's missile arsenal.
Defence sources stated that the test met all pre-launch objectives, including trajectory accuracy and re-entry performance. The missile was tracked by multiple radar systems and telemetry stations along the coast, ensuring comprehensive data collection for further analysis.
India's missile development program, under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), continues to enhance the nation's defence capabilities. The Agni-1 test comes amid ongoing modernization efforts to strengthen India's strategic forces.
