MYSURU: In a tragic incident, Sandhya, the wife of senior IPS officer Sunil Achaya, was trampled to death by a tusker in Konanakatte near Titimati in Kodagu district. The incident occurred around 10 am on Tuesday when Sandhya was inspecting a coffee plantation along with two labourers.
According to Kodagu police sources, the tusker suddenly appeared and attacked Sandhya. The labourers managed to escape unharmed. Sandhya was immediately rushed to a hospital in Gonikoppal, but she succumbed to her injuries on the way, said sources.
The body has been sent for post-mortem, and further investigations are underway. Forest department officials have been alerted to track the tusker to prevent further incidents.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and the police fraternity. Sunil Achaya is currently serving as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in the Karnataka police.
