Karnataka May Face Early Polls as Congress Govt Nears Collapse

Karnataka is likely to face early assembly elections as the Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is on the verge of collapse, according to state BJP President B Y Vijayendra. Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Wednesday, Vijayendra launched a scathing attack on the ruling party, accusing it of widespread corruption and mismanagement.

Allegations of Corruption

Vijayendra claimed that the Congress government has been mired in extreme corruption, forcing Siddaramaiah to consider resigning even after his party's victory in recent by-elections. He sarcastically remarked, "This government is mired in extreme corruption. That is why Siddaramaiah is forced to resign even after winning the by-elections."

Political Instability

The BJP leader alleged that internal strife within the Congress and a series of corruption scandals have weakened the government's stability. He predicted that early elections are inevitable, as the ruling party has lost the confidence of the people and its own legislators.

Vijayendra also criticized the Congress for failing to deliver on its promises, including the guarantee schemes launched earlier this year. He said the public is disillusioned with the government's performance and is ready for a change.

Congress Response

In response, Congress leaders dismissed Vijayendra's claims as baseless and intended to divert attention from the BJP's own internal problems. They asserted that the government is stable and will complete its full term. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has not commented on the speculation.

Political analysts suggest that while the Congress government faces challenges, including factionalism and corruption allegations, early elections remain a possibility only if the ruling party loses its majority in the assembly. The current term of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly is scheduled to end in 2028.
