KOLKATA: In an unprecedented event at Kolkata airport, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and nearly two dozen chief ministers from various states will arrive on Saturday morning, marking the busiest morning for air traffic controllers and terminal officials.
A series of coordination meetings were held at the airport on Friday to ensure that all VIP flights land and depart without delays. Many of the dignitaries, including PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah—who is already in the city—will fly out later in the day.
Most VIPs are expected to arrive between 9 am and 9:30 am to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Suvendu Adhikari. While some will arrive on scheduled commercial flights, several chief ministers are expected to use private aircraft.
VIPs arriving by scheduled flights include Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, and Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla. Those expected to arrive by private jets include Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Assam Chief Minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhury, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, and Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh.
With so many additional flights during the busy morning hours, the airport has issued a Notice to Airmen, alerting scheduled operators of the possibility of slight delays.
