The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, responsible for the construction and management of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, has appointed Krishna Mohan as its interim general secretary. He will replace Champat Rai, who has been serving in the role since the trust's inception in 2020. The decision was taken during a trust meeting held in Ayodhya on July 6, 2026.
Who is Krishna Mohan?
Krishna Mohan, a former bureaucrat, has been associated with the Ram Temple movement for decades. He served as the joint secretary of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and was actively involved in the legal and organizational efforts leading to the construction of the temple. He was also a member of the trust's executive committee.
According to trust officials, Mohan's appointment is interim and will be formalized after the trust's next meeting. Champat Rai, who stepped down due to health reasons, will continue as a member of the trust.
Background of the Trust
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust was formed in February 2020, following the Supreme Court's verdict in the Ayodhya dispute. The trust oversees the construction of the Ram Temple and manages its daily operations. The temple's construction began in August 2020 and is expected to be completed by 2027.
Champat Rai, the outgoing general secretary, had been instrumental in coordinating the construction work and managing the trust's finances. He expressed confidence in Mohan's ability to lead the trust forward.
Reactions and Future Plans
Trust members welcomed the appointment, citing Mohan's long-standing dedication to the cause. “Krishna Mohan ji has been a pillar of the Ram Temple movement. His experience will be invaluable in the final stages of construction,” said a trust spokesperson.
The trust is currently focused on completing the temple's first phase, which includes the sanctum sanctorum and the main structure. The second phase will involve landscaping and the construction of ancillary buildings.
