Kurukshetra Hosts National Kisan Mazdoor Morcha Meeting on Farmers' and Labourers' Concerns

A two-day national-level meeting of the All India Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) commenced in Kurukshetra on Tuesday, drawing representatives from multiple states to discuss critical issues impacting farmers and labourers across India. The gathering aimed to foster unity and strategize on pressing demands.

Opening Day Discussions and Key Decisions

On the inaugural day, participants shared region-specific challenges and experiences, highlighting diverse agricultural and labour-related hardships. Following these deliberations, the KMM made a significant decision to launch a nationwide awareness campaign targeting what it termed "anti-people policies" of the central government.

The campaign will focus on several key demands, including:

  • A legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP) to ensure fair remuneration for farmers.
  • Enactment and implementation of laws related to agricultural and labour welfare.
  • Protection and strengthening of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

Additionally, the KMM announced its opposition to various proposed measures, such as the India-USA trade deal, electricity amendments, the Seeds Bill, and new labour laws, citing potential adverse effects on rural and working communities.

Strategic Mobilization and Upcoming Conventions

To mobilize public support, the KMM plans to organize conventions across different states, addressing both national and regional concerns. According to the organization, a state-level convention is scheduled in Rajasthan on April 28, followed by a national meeting in Madhya Pradesh on May 30-31. A regional convention in Madhya Pradesh will take place on June 1.

These initiatives are designed to build broad-based mass support and strengthen a coordinated nationwide movement, as stated by the KMM.
