Landslide Threatens Houses in Shimla; Rain Alert Issued

A landslide triggered by heavy rain in the Sanjauli locality of Shimla on Saturday has placed several houses at risk. The incident occurred at Bothwell area near Government College, Sanjauli, where a large amount of debris came crashing down, causing panic among local residents. A team from the district administration along with other departments reached the spot and is currently assessing the situation.

Damage to Vehicles in Rajhana Village

Another landslide took place in Rajhana village in Shimla, damaging several vehicles parked along the roadside. Fortunately, no loss of life has been reported. The landslide occurred when a massive amount of boulders, rocks, and debris fell onto the road, partially burying and damaging the vehicles. The district administration has initiated debris clearance work at the site.

Sangla Bridge Collapses

Meanwhile, the Sangla bridge, which connects Sangla with Chitkul, collapsed on Friday night after remaining under threat due to incessant rain. The collapse has disrupted connectivity in the region.

Weather Forecast and Yellow Alert

The Meteorological Centre has forecast continued rain across Himachal Pradesh and issued a yellow alert for Shimla, Kullu, Chamba, Bilaspur, and Sirmour districts for today. Heavy to moderate rain is likely in isolated areas of these districts. The centre has also warned of waterlogging in low-lying areas, traffic congestion, slippery roads, and temporary disruption of local essential services. People have been advised to avoid vulnerable areas and water bodies.
