A special Pocso court in Firozabad has sentenced a 35-year-old man to life imprisonment for the kidnapping and rape of an 11-year-old girl. The trial was concluded within 90 days of the incident.
Court Proceedings and Verdict
On Friday, Judge Mumtaz Ali delivered the verdict, convicting the accused based on evidence, witness statements, and the survivor's testimony. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on the convict, with an additional four months of imprisonment mandated in case of non-payment.
Details of the Crime
Assistant district government counsel Awadesh Bhardwaj said the crime occurred on March 10. The survivor and two other girls went to a field near their village. The accused, a resident of the same village, lured the girl onto his motorcycle by offering her chocolates. He drove her to an isolated spot near a canal, where he assaulted her and subsequently attempted to kill her. The girl's screams alerted nearby villagers, who apprehended the man.
Complaint and Legal Action
Following the assault, the girl's father lodged a police complaint, stating, “My daughter told me that the accused did wrong things to her...” Based on the complaint, police registered a case under BNS sections 137(2) for kidnapping, 109 for attempt to murder, and 65(2) for the rape of a girl under 12 years of age, along with the Pocso Act. A chargesheet was filed within days of sending the arrested man to jail.
