Torrential rain accompanied by high-intensity squall wreaked havoc in Bihar's Bhojpur district on Friday morning, disrupting normal life. Four people, including two middle-aged women and their teenage daughters, sustained burn injuries in a lightning strike on a thatched house at Chauri village under the same police station area. The thatched house also caught fire, which was extinguished by villagers. Meanwhile, a huge Neem tree fell on the Ara-Sasaram state highway under Udwantnagar police station, causing a traffic jam.
Details of the Lightning Strike Incident
The injured have been identified as Geeta Devi (40), wife of Janki Ram, and her daughter Lachhmina Kumari, along with Bateshra Devi (35) and her teenage daughter Gorki Kumari. They were rushed to the Sahar Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment. According to doctors, Lachhmina Kumari sustained serious injuries.
Kamlesh Kumar, a resident of Chauri, described the incident: "The sound of the lightning strike was so high-pitched and deafening that the four persons inside the thatched house were completely dazed for a while due to the shock. The house caught fire, which was extinguished by the villagers."
Police Response and Investigation
Chauri Station House Officer (SHO) Rakesh Kumar Singh confirmed that the victims were injured due to the high impact of the lightning strike. "Some of the injured have been shifted to other hospitals without informing the police. We are trying to locate where they are currently undergoing treatment," he said.
The tree fall on the Ara-Sasaram highway caused significant traffic disruption, but authorities worked to clear the road. The district administration has urged residents to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions.
